Unbreakable Bonds
"Hi," "What's your name?"
That’s all I remember of how our friendship began,
Like a spark catching the edge of a wick,
You slipped effortlessly into the chambers of my heart,
Until every dream was etched with the memories of you.
You lit up my life like scattered stardust,
A glimmer so unreal, an ultra luminary.
Our hushed whispers weaving through class,
The laughter echoing across the ground.
It aches to think how much I leaned on you,
How you never faltered, never let me down.
When I was but a speck adrift in the universe,
You found me and breathed hope into my emptiness,
Told me I was more than just another wandering soul,
That I was worthy, even when I couldn’t see it.
My confidence, once a faint shadow,
Was shaped and forged over the years we shared.
Then came the hangouts, the afternoons melting into night.
Oh, the laughter, the warm embrace of your hugs,
How I long for them, a craving that won’t fade.
Our souls have entwined, and if fate had granted me a choice,
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You were there through it all, the darkness, the light,
The desperate moments when the world seemed to crumble,
And it seems almost impossible now to think
That once, we were just strangers passing by.
But time is a cruel thief,
and it’s torn us into different worlds,
Separated by a distance too great for mere steps to close.
I would surrender every last breath I have,
Just to feel the warmth of your bear hugs again.
But still, we remain tethered, no matter the miles,
And here you are, before me, a voice through the screen,
We laugh about our diverging lives, share secrets, and wear face masks together,
Studying in the comfortable silence of each other’s presence.
And I know, without a shadow of doubt,
This...this is what love is, in its purest, truest form.
